GJB 3567 is the Chinese national military standard that specifies the qualification test methods for the lightning protection of military aircraft. Aircraft are among the most exposed of all structures to lightning: they operate at altitudes where strikes are frequent, they are unable to avoid the weather, and a single strike can carry currents of the order of two hundred kiloamperes through a structure that must remain airworthy afterwards. The standard deals with both categories of effect. For the direct effects, it defines the component test waveforms and the levels applied to the airframe, to the fuel system and to the structure, and it specifies the tests that demonstrate the ability of the aircraft to conduct the current without damage, ignition or loss of structural integrity. For the indirect effects, it defines the transients induced in the aircraft wiring and the tests applied to the equipment and systems connected to those cables, and it prescribes the configuration, the injection method and the assessment criteria for each.
The Lightning Direct Effects Test System LCG 464C is an advanced high-energy pulsed current test platform specifically designed to simulate the current impact process experienced by aircraft during direct lightning events.
