YY 9706.102 is the Chinese medical device industry standard for the electromagnetic compatibility of medical electrical equipment and medical electrical systems, issued in the YY series that governs medical devices in China and adopted from the corresponding international collateral standard. Its practical importance lies in the registration system: before a medical device may be marketed in China it is registered with the national medical products administration, and the electromagnetic compatibility evidence submitted for that registration is the test report against this standard produced by a laboratory recognised for the purpose. The standard requires the manufacturer to identify the essential performance of the device and to define the electromagnetic environment in which it will be used, and it sets different requirements for the professional healthcare facility environment and for the home healthcare environment, the latter being considerably stricter because equipment used in a home may be installed beside a radio transmitter or a domestic appliance without any supervision.
