EN 300 342-1 is an ETSI standard that specifies the electromagnetic compatibility conditions for the mobile and portable radio equipment and the ancillary equipment used in the European digital cellular system operating in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands. The equipment in question is the mobile station itself and its accessories, including the charger, the car kit and the data adapters, and the standard has to reconcile the requirements of a radio transmitter, a radio receiver and a mains-connected charging circuit within one system. It identifies the ports of the equipment, including the antenna port, the enclosure port and the d.c. and a.c. power ports, and it selects the applicable emission and immunity requirements for each from the common EMC series, adding the conditions specific to cellular equipment such as operation at maximum transmit power and the interaction between the transceiver and a charger.
