EN 301 489-17 is the part of the ETSI EMC series that specifies the additional conditions applying to broadband data transmission systems. The category covers the wireless local area network equipment, broadband wireless access systems and similar products that transmit data at high rates over a wide bandwidth, and it has grown rapidly to include the access points, routers, bridges and client devices that are now present in almost every home and office. The standard identifies the ports that such equipment presents, including one or more antenna ports, the enclosure, the a.c. or d.c. power port and the wired data ports, and it selects the applicable emission and immunity requirements from the common part of the series before adding the conditions specific to this equipment, among them operation with the transmitter active at maximum power while the receiver is required to continue working, the simultaneous operation of the radio and the wired interfaces, and the test set-up for equipment with an integral antenna.
