High frequency recommended vocabulary
EN 301 489-1 is the first part of the ETSI EMC standard for radio equipment and services and contains the common technical requirements that apply to every product in the family. The series exists because radio equipment presents a case that the ordinary EMC standards handle poorly: the product deliberately radiates, so that an emission limit cannot simply be applied to the enclosure, and it contains a receiver that must keep working in the presence of whatever signals are present. The standard therefore defines the electromagnetic phenomena to be considered, the ports to be assessed including the antenna port, the test conditions and the operating modes that make the equipment produce a representative result, and the performance criteria that a radio must satisfy during and after each immunity test, which are expressed in terms of the continued operation of the radio link rather than a simple pass or fail. The part 2 documents add the specific conditions of each radio service.
