The Chinese standard for testing road vehicles against electrostatic discharge is an adoption of the international test method, and it is applied in China together with the vehicle level EMC standard that the automotive industry uses for whole vehicle type approval and with the component standards for transients and for radiated disturbance. Chinese vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers follow the same two level structure as elsewhere, testing modules on the bench and the complete vehicle in the chamber, and the component level test is normally performed against the customer's own specification where a Chinese manufacturer has issued one. Because a growing proportion of vehicles sold in China is electrically powered, the test has gained importance for the high voltage components and for the charging interface, which are exposed to discharges from a user handling a connector. The Chinese text corresponds to the international test method rather than to its own national variant.
