UN Regulation No. 10 is the regulation governing the approval of vehicles with respect to electromagnetic compatibility, adopted within the framework of the United Nations agreement on vehicle regulations, and it is the instrument through which a vehicle is granted the approval mark recognised by the contracting parties. It differs in nature from the corporate standards that surround it in this category: it is a regulation, its requirements are enforceable, and a vehicle that does not hold the approval may not be placed on the market in the countries that apply it. The regulation sets limits for the disturbance emitted by a vehicle and by its separate technical units and requires immunity to defined disturbances, and it also addresses the approval of electronic subassemblies as separate technical units, which is how a supplier can obtain approval for a component independently of the vehicle programme. The Chinese vehicle EMC standard is closely aligned with it.
