CS-11809 belongs to the specification series of the North American manufacturer, in which the CS prefix identifies a company specification issued to suppliers, and it states the electromagnetic compatibility requirements that a component must meet on a given vehicle programme. The North American automotive companies have historically been as concerned with the disturbance a component emits as with its immunity, because the vehicles they build carry a wide range of entertainment and communication receivers and because the regulatory position in the United States places the responsibility for the emissions of digital devices on the manufacturer. A requirement in this series therefore tends to state emission limits in more detail than an immunity-focused European document of comparable scope does, and it identifies the frequency ranges and the antennas through which the vehicle receiver is protected. The requirement is quoted in the supplier's engineering specification.
