IEC 61326 is the product-family standard that defines the electromagnetic compatibility requirements for electrical equipment used for measurement, control and laboratory applications. The scope is broad, covering laboratory instruments, industrial process measurement and control equipment, electrical test and measuring apparatus, and the accessories used with them. The standard is organised as a set of parts: the general requirements are followed by particular requirements for sensitive equipment, for equipment used in industrial locations and for in vitro diagnostic medical equipment. Because the products it covers are often used to make measurements, the standard pays particular attention to the effect of electromagnetic disturbances on accuracy and repeatability, and it defines the minimum performance criteria in terms of the change observed in the measurement rather than only the absence of malfunction. Emission limits are assigned according to the environment in which the equipment is intended to operate, while immunity test levels are taken from the generic standards with adjustments for the special sensitivity of measuring circuits. Test configurations and operating conditions specific to measurement equipment are prescribed.
